  • KBS winners at the New York Festivals Awards Ceremony

  • KBS factual drama, Imjin War 1592, wins two Gold World Medals.

  • KBS documentary, A Cruel Gift, takes out the Gold World Medal.

  • KBS has successfully demonstrated its prominent presence at this year’s New York Festivals World’s Best TV & Films, securing five awards, and confirming its reputation as one of the most creative and diverse content provider in the TV industry across the world.

Announced at the awards presentation on 25 April during the 2017 NAB Show in Las Vegas, the competition honored Imjin War 1592 with two Gold World Medals in the categories of Docudrama and Best Camerawork. First broadcast in September 2016 via KBS TV1, Imjin War 1592 is dubbed as factual drama which combines documentary and drama. Drawing upon the Admiral Lee’s War Diary and King Sunjo Chronicles, the documentary stays true to the facts, while spectacles of the naval battles shot in 4K UHD add dramatic effects.

Also, A Cruel Gift won the Gold World Medal in the category of Human Concerns Documentary & Information. This 55-minute documentary records the final days of terminal cancer patients, helping audiences realize how precious our lives truly are.

In the Best Investigative Report category, Smart Consumer Reports collected the Gold World Medal for its in-depth investigation of the tragic incident where disinfectant for humidifiers killed scores of people and left hundreds with permanent lung damage in Korea.

Additionally, KBS Special ‘Rooms for Youth in Basement, Rooftop and Gosiwon’ garnered the Bronze World Medal in the Community Portraits Documentary & Information.

In the meantime, A Cruel Gift will be rebroadcast on Saturday 6 May 2017 at 11:30 PM as part of the special programming planned to celebrate National Family Month. Also, Imjin War 1592 will be aired again in June 2017 in commemoration of the launch of UHDTV.

With entries in from 40 countries, the New York Festivals International TV & Films Awards 2017, one of the world’s most prestigious international TV awards, presented a strong competition.
