  • KBS has announced that it will host the Public Broadcasters International Conference 2018 in Seoul, Korea. Officially announced at this year’s PBI meeting in Sinaia, Romania, held on 12 and 13 of September 2017, KBS will bring the exclusive gathering of leaders of the world’s public service broadcasters again to the capital city of Korea. The annual PBI Conference has been an opportunity for decision-makers of public media to share their insights and ideas on a range of issues in the ever-evolving media landscape. The Sinaia conference attracted high-profile representatives from some of the leading public service broadcasters including BBC, NHK, CBC Radio and Radio France.

KBS had successfully hosted the PBI Seoul Conference from 10 to 12 October in 2007.  Under the theme of @Crossroads: Digital Revolution and PSB Perspectives, the Seoul event had attracted more than 100 media professionals from over 30 countries across the globe almost 10 years ago.

KBS International Relations Director Sophia Hong led the KBS delegation to take part in this year’s PBI Conference in Sinaia and met with the conference participants to encourage them to visit Seoul for the next year’s event. Also, KBS Innovation Strategy Chief Jung Chuloong participated in the conference as a session speaker. Mr. Jung made a presentation titledValues and Challenges of Multi-Source Funding for PSM.” In the presentation, he introduced the financial system of KBS and its measures to maintain stable finance. He also stressed that it’s important to keep up with the dominant position in the advertising market and increase content sales at home and abroad to make a public broadcaster to stay competitive and relevant in the fast changing global media environment.

PBI Secretary-General Toshiyuki Sato said he is pleased to see KBS invite the PBI member broadcasters to join the annual gathering again in Seoul in 2018.
