  • KBS welcomed a visit by the new British Ambassador to South Korea Mr. Simon Smith to KBS Headquarters in Yeouido on 25 June 2018. Mr. Simon Smith began his duty as the new British diplomatic head of mission in South Korea in April 2018.

     

    In a meeting with KBS President and CEO Yang Sung-dong, Mr. Simon was briefed about the PBI(Public Broadcasters International) Seoul 2018 conference which will take place in Seoul on 23-25 October 2018. Ambassador Simon said he is well aware of the significance of the PBI Seoul 2018 as it offers an opportunity for public service media organizations to share information, vision, and philosophies of PSM. Mr. Simon emphasized that public service broadcasters all over the world are faced with common challenges to maintain independence and provide accurate and impartial news.

     

    Also, Mr. Yang and Mr. Simon discussed a range of issues regarding co-operation between KBS and the UK. Mr. Simon called for the support of KBS as his primary mission in Korea is to promote the UK’s position and plans on Brexit and strengthen partnership between Korea and the UK.

     

    KBS President and CEO Yang said KBS is proud to host the PBI Seoul 2018 which will bring leaders of public service broadcasters across the globe to Seoul including high-profile executives from the BBC. Mr. Yang added that the BBC has been a role model for KBS and KBS has been continuing efforts to learn and benchmark its development in broadcast technology and creation of high quality content.
