  • Park Jin-young's Song Likely to Top Billboard Chart
  • [2005-04-07]
  • A new song from singer/producer Park Jin-young entitled "I Wish I Made That" is likely to top the U.S. Billboard chart. Park wrote and produced the song for the new album of world-renowned star Will Smith. Smith's album is called "Lost and Found" and it is due out in the United States on April 10.

Park became the first Korean musician to gain recognition in the United States after he co-wrote the song "The Love You Need" with songwriter Bang Shi-hyuk back in August for the reverend-turned-hip-hop-musician Mase, who recently made a comeback after a five-year hiatus.

In addition to being the first Korean musician to establish his presence in the U.S. music market, Park is now poised to become the first Korean musician to top the Billboard chart, as his song is being performed by Smith, who has topped the chart several times before.

Mase's album "Welcome Back," which contains Park's debut American song, turned out to be a big success, ranking fourth on the Billboard album chart in August of last year and earning Park significant fame among such top-rated artists as OutKast, Lil' Jon and Will Smith. OutKast won the Best MTV Music Video Award in August, while Lil' Jon is an artist/producer who wrote "Yeah" for Usher, the winner of the Best MTV Male Video Award. Prior to the award ceremony, Aaron Carter, the younger brother of former Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, requested Park write a song for him as well.

On April 7, Park will make a public appearance for the first time in three years on the KBS Radio program "Danny's Kiss the Radio," hosted by G.O.D. member Danny Ahn, who is Park's close friend. Since he began his career as a producer, Park has stayed low-key most of the time. When he appears on "Danny's Kiss the Radio," he will tell the audience about his experiences as a songwriter in the U.S. market and the hardships that he had to go through to make his name in America. He will also present his song "I Wish I Made That" for the first time in Korea.
