  • Kang So-young Participates in Fashion Show with Burn Injuries
  • [2005-04-01]
  • It has been reported that supermodel Kang So-young, who won the 2004 supermodel competition, received second-degree burns on her cheek while preparing for a fashion show in Beijing. The incident occurred early in the morning of March 24 at 7:30 a.m. because of a mistake made by a beautician.

Kang left for China on March 21 to participate in the Preview in Shanghai fashion show that opened on March 23. Her burns will take at least eight weeks to heal completely. The news about Kang's injuries was surprising because she reportedly did not receive any medical treatment just after the accident, and had to participate in the show after simply applying makeup over the burns.

"The accident occurred when the beautician, who was standing right beside So-young holding a hair-straightener, turned abruptly while chatting with another person in the room," said a person from Kang's agency on March 31. He added that what's more upsetting about this incident is that the organizers of the show made Kang go on stage despite her injuries instead of rushing her to a hospital. Kang was able to receive medical treatment only after returning to Korea in the evening of March 24.

Due to her injuries, Kang had to cancel her scheduled participation in three high-profile fashion shows, including a Chanel show and an Andre Kim show that will be held in Washington. She has also incurred significant financial losses as she was unable to star in a music video and a TV commercial. Kang's agency plans to take legal action against the beauty salon where the involved beautician works.

Currently, Kang is receiving treatment at a hospital specializing in burn care.
