  • Actor Song Seung-Heon to Join Army as Scheduled
  • [2004-11-04]
  • The Military Manpower Administration said Oct. 27 that it has no intention to postpone the conscription of draft-dodgers, including actor Song Seung-heon, who deliberately avoided military service. `We have received a petition from the Uri Party today requesting us to postpone Song`s military service. But we have made our stance clear, and we once again reaffirm that we will not reverse our decision,` said an administration official. He also added that according to the law, the administration is not supposed to give benefits to and postpone the conscription of those who dodge drafts illegally. "We are currently reviewing the petition, but we will not change the time of Song`s conscription,` said the official. Prior to that, the administration announced its plan to enlist on Nov. 20 all 52 of the total of 130 persons who dodged their drafts due to alleged kidney disorders but were exempted from criminal punishment due to the lapse of prosecution. Those to be enlisted next month include three entertainers - Song Seung-heon, Jang Hyuk and Han Jae-seok. The administration has decided not to postpone or exempt from conscription any of the above-mentioned 130 persons, and punish them on criminal charges if they attempt to avoid physical examinations and conscription.
