  • Kwon Sang-woo: `Love Has No National Boundaries`
  • [2005-04-25]
  • The `hallyu` star Kwon Sang-woo, whose popularity has recently been soaring in Japan, appeared on Fuji TV`s signature program `SMAPxSMAP` on April 25. In his interview, Kwon said he believed that love has no national boundaries and that he loves both his Korean and Japanese female fans. The program, hosted by the five members of the Japanese group SMAP, invites famous celebrities in every episode and treats them to delicious food personally prepared by SMAP members.

The Japanese media, such as Sports Hochi and Sankei Sports, reported on Kwon`s appearance on the SMAP program, describing the atmosphere during the recording as mellow. Kwon, who was apparently impressed by the delicious food he was treated to, told the audience how he debuted in show business and what qualities he looked for in a woman.

Kwon said he likes very hot soups, and usually orders stews and desserts. When SMAP treated him to their dishes, Kwon said he had never seen such food before. Kwon also praised SMAP member Kusanagi Tsuyoshi for his fluent Korean, saying he speaks Korean well enough to captivate the heart of a Korean woman.

Kwon said he was impressed when he saw another member of the group, Shingo Katori, play Bae Yong-jun`s character from the drama `Winter Sonata` when the group invited actress Choi Ji-woo to its program in last November.

When the group`s leader, Nakai Masahiro, asked Kwon about his ideal image of a woman, Kwon said he liked women with good complexion and beautiful eyes, and spoke highly of Korean and Japanese women. He also added, `There are no national boundaries when it comes to love.`
