  • `Sassy Girl Chung-hyang` Sets Off J-Pop Culture Wave
  • [2005-02-14]
  • The song `Alive` of from Japanese singer AI has been making headlines in Japan recently ever since it was featured in the KBS Monday-Tuesday series `Sassy Girl Chung-hyang.` The song, which has appeared in the series since the fifth episode, is the English version of a single that was released in May last year. While introducing `Sassy Girl Chung-hyang` and singer AI, the Japanese media wrote that it was the first time a song performed by a Japanese artist was officially introduced in a Korean television drama. Viewers rushed to post inquiries on the series` bulletin board after the scene featuring the song was shown on TV.

"I was impressed by the strong vocals and charm of AI when I first met him in July last year at an MTV event that was held in Korea. But we had to use the English version of the song since Japanese-language songs are prohibited from being used in television shows,` said the drama`s producer Jeon Ki-sang.

Meanwhile, AI, who became the first Japanese artist to have his song featured in a Korean television show, said he was hopeful this opportunity will bolster exchanges between Korea and Japan.
