U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Kathleen Stephens, recently invited singer Kim Tae Woo to the ambassador’s residence to hold his concert, which has created a lot of buzz. Ambassador Stephens posted her thoughts on her personal Internet blog under the title “The Lunar New Year’s day concert with singer Kim Tae Woo.” She said, “Before the Lunar New Year’s holiday had begun, I invited the legendary singer of Korean popular songs, Kim Tae Woo, to the Habib House where I live, to hold a concert. It was the first time ever to invite a popular singer to the ambassador’s residence to give a performance.” She also released the photo taken at the place on January 27 when the concert was held by posting the picture on her Twitter account. She explained that she invited the participants of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and Alumni-Youth Leadership Program to the concert.

Kathleen Stephens talked about the IVLP, saying, “For the past 70 years, promising experts from all around the world have participated in the customized program held in the US for three to four weeks. I also feel very proud of the fact that the former presidents of Korea, Kim Young Sam and Kim Dae Joong, had also participated in the IVLP.” She also introduced the AYLP, saying. “AYLP is a newly created program in Korea. We select thirty students from high schools in remote rural area where American fullbright teachers teach as a part of the Fulbright ETA program, and teach them to have their own point of view on Korea and US relations. Thanks to those young participants at AYLP, the concert could be filled with enthusiasm and energy. I think that it was a memorable night for everyone, including me.”
