  • Kara Ranks Atop Japanese Oricon DVD Chart
  • [2011-03-03]
  • Star girl group Kara has ranked atop the Japanese Oricon chart in the DVD category, marking the first time for a foreign female musician or group. Oricon news reported on March 2 that Kara's DVD entitled "KARA BEST CLIPS," which had been released on February 23, had sold as many as 132,000 copies during the first week after its release, and it has been the first time since 1999 (when the Oricon introduced the DVD rankings) that female musicians from abroad have ranked atop the chart.

Only five foreign artists: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Dong Bang Shin Ki, JYJ, and Michael Jackson, have been ranked in first place, and Kara has become the sixth foreign artist or group to rank atop the chart. In addition, the total album sales -- 132,000 copies during the first week -- also broke the previous record set by Kuraki Mai ten years and three months ago in November, 2000 (99,000 copies). Oricon added that the record that Kara set is the most impressive feat compared to other musicians' accomplishments.

"'KARA BEST CLIPS" contains a total of eight songs including "Mister," which is Kara's debut song in Japan, "Jumping," sung both in Korean and Japanese, and "Lupin."
