  • Crown J: ‘Assault Charge Is Groundless’
  • [2011-03-17]
  • Crown J accused his former manager of fraud and defamation to the prosecution.

Singer Crown J (real name Kim Gye Hoon, 32), who has been caught up in an assault accusation, said on March 15, “I have never made an assault upon my former manager surnamed Seo, nor forced him to sign any note.” Crown J held a press conference in Seochodong and contradicted what Seo had insisted by saying, “I did not assault Seo regarding a loan repayment, and he voluntarily wrote a note saying that he would hand over a yacht to repay the loan and signed it. What he had insisted on previously is completely groundless.”

His lawyer from the law firm Da Dam, Im Young Ho, who was sitting with Crown J, said, “We filed a lawsuit against Seo for defamation and false accusation to the Seoul Central Prosecutors' Office on March 14.” According to Da Dam’s explanation, Seo had borrowed 200 million won from a bank in August, 2008, and Crown J had underwritten Seo’s loan at that time. Afterward, Seo accused Crown J at a police station, saying, “I was assaulted by Crown J and three others in his company at a café last August. I was forced to write a memorandum stating that I would hand over my yacht to him to repay the loan.” Crown J contested Seo’s accusation, explaining, “When the bank could not contact Seo, they harshly pressed me to repay the loan. My mother, who had worried about damager to her son’s career as a singer, repaid the loan instead by securing her house and extending the deadline of the loan repayment.” He also explained the assault accusation, saying, “Seo’s claims are inconsistent. His statement regarding the location where he had been assaulted, the people who actually assaulted him, and the exact method of assault have changed all the time whenever he gave answers during many interviews.”

Crown J’s agency presented several pieces of evidence, such as the document to prove that the loan had been deposited to Seo’s bank account and Crown J’s surety document. In addition, the representative of his agency named Roh Seok also revealed that he had in his possession a voice recording of Seo who had said that Crown J had never assaulted him while talking on the phone with Roh. Crown J said, “He had been a very close friend and even closer than my own brothers, but he had presumed on our friendship. He tried to make me out as a bad mugger and ostracize me from society simply to not repay his debt. My heart is severely hurt and I feel very sad because I had trusted him. I am so sorry to my family, friends, and my fans for giving them disappointment. I believe that the truth will come out anyway. As I was falsely accused, I will strongly respond to it. In addition, I will continue my activities in the USA as a singer.” Crown J is planning to release his single music video through a well known hip hop Internet website in the U.S. at the end of this month.
