  • Yoo Ah In: 'I Regret Dropping Out of School'
  • [2011-09-08]
  • Yoo Ah In was asked at the production presentation of "Punch” how he had relieved his stress from school when he was a student, and he answered, "I think that there are not many ways for students to get rid of their stress.

Due to huge stress from school, I had decided to drop out of school at that time, and I feel sorry now because I might have stayed in school if I knew how to relieve stress." He gave advice to current students by saying, "I think that you had better try some different things when you are a student. Once you come out to society, it will be illegal, but if students do something bad and illegal, it could be considered as a cute aberration as long as it is not that serious. I hope that you permit some degree of aberration for you.” He continued, “I left school very early, so I have a lingering desire about high school life. It could have been a mistake in my life. While I was filming this movie, I could reminisce about my high school years, and I worried whether I could exactly express the emotion of high school students because I am already grown up.” Asked about any aberrant behavior he had engaged in as a student, he answered, “I cannot tell you everything now. But I went to Seoul Art School at that time and I had to take lessons at night at school, which was compulsory at school, but I never participated in the class. I usually hung out with my friends at a café near our school and I was just sitting on the street without doing anything.”

A teacher named “Dong Joo” appears in “Punch,” and Yoo Ah In introduced the character, saying, “I used to be skeptical about the presence of teachers when I was a student, and I actually thought that the character ‘Dong Joo’ in this movie seemed to be very unrealistic. But he was a very honest person who was incapable of dissembling and he comfortably talked to ‘Wandeuk,’ whom I play in this movie, without trying to pretend to be nice to him, so I really liked his behavior.”
