  • Bae Doo Na to Star in Hollywood Movie 'Cloud Atlas'
  • [2011-09-15]
  • "Cloud Atlas" will be directed by the Wachowski brothers and Tom Tykwer.

Actress Bae Doo Na will appear in her first Hollywood movie entitled "Cloud Atlas," which will begin filming from September 16, the Korean importer and distributor of the movie, Bloomage, said on September 14. A science fiction blockbuster, "Cloud Atlas" will be produced with a budget of 120 million dollars (103 billion Korean won) and it will be co-directed by the Wachowski brothers, who became popular with their hit movie "The Matrix," and the German director Tom Tykwer, who is famous for his movies such as "Run Lola Run" and "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer." Bae Doo Na will appear as one of the main characters in the movie along with other star actors such as Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Ben Wishaw, Hugo Weaving, Jim Broadbent, and China's Zhou Xun.

Bloomage said that Bae Doo Na had made a very impressive image on the Wachowski brothers with her appearance in her previous movie "Air Doll," and the Wachowski brothers had asked Bae to have an interview after watching her other movies "The Host" and "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance," and they immediately decided to cast her after seeing her only one time at the interview.

"Cloud Atlas" is based on the David Mitchell novel with the same title, which was published in 2004, and it will consist of six different episodes transcending time and space, and all the cast members will play the protagonists in each episode and also appear as supporting actors in other episodes in double roles with extreme makeovers. Bae Doo Na will appear as the protagonist in the episode with the background of Seoul in the year 2144 and appear in the other episodes as well. But her episode will reportedly not be filmed in Seoul as the episode is set in the future.

When all the cast members gathered for script reading, Bae Doo Na reportedly presented excellent English in a British accent which perfectly matches her character in the movie and won high praise from Hugh Grant and Ben Wishaw, who come from England.

The movie will begin filming in Berlin, Germany from September 16, and continue filming all around Europe including Spain and Scotland. Warner Brothers will distribute the movie and it will be released next year near the Thanksgiving holiday in America.
