  • Psy and Girls’ Generation Cited by Times Video and Song of the Year

  •  A music video by ‘world star’ Psy, 36,and a song by girl group Girls’ Generation were ranked as the top viral videos of the year and came fifth place in "Top 10 songs of the year" by U.S. weekly Times.

     
    According to Times on Dec. 4, Psy’s digital single ‘Gentleman’ music video beat 'The Fox' by Norwegian duo Ylvis and ranked top among the top ten viral videos of the year.
     
    Times said that Psy proved he was not a one-trick pony when Gentleman broke all kinds of records right out of the gate, becoming the most viewed video online in a single day.
     
    Girls’ Generation’s “I got a boy”, the title song of their fourth album, ranked fifth in the Top 10 Songs of 2013.
     
    Times said that the nine-woman South Korean group  Girls Generation are "a ridiculously effective hook machine", and a major phenomenon in Asia.
     
    On the same list, "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk was picked top song of the year. Big Sean’s "Control", which was used in local hip hop artists’ “Disdaejeon (disrespect war)”, “We can’t stop” by Miley Cyrus (who has been in the spotlight for her unconventional performances) and in “Royals” by rookie Lorde, who swept many charts this year, were all included in the list of top songs.
     
    Psy’s Gentleman recorded 595,650,000 hits as of Dec.5 and his global hit “Gangnam Style” music video passed the most-viewed with 1.8 billion hits on You Tube.
     
    Girls’ Generation was picked up as “Most Anticipated Album 44 of 2013” in January by American cable FUSE TV.  They received the spotlight from foreign media when they received “The Year’s Music Video” award outrivaling Lady Gaga, Psy and Justin Bieber in the first “YouTube Music Awards” last month.
     
    A representative of Girls' Generation said, “The Times’ citation proves the gloval popularity and influence of Girls’ Generation and that a new era has opened in which good content locally made can receive attention on the world market."
     
    Psy and Girls’ Generation will hold year-end concerts, respectively titled “Gymnastics in the moonligjht” and “Marchen Fantasy”.
