  • [2012-08-23]
  • Singer Psy’s music video “Gangnam Style” has topped the U.S. iTunes MV chart on August 21st. The music video ranked 2nd place on August 18th, but rose to first in just three days beating out popular stars like Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.

Currently on Youtube, the music video has 43 million hits while the second version of the song “Oppa is Just My Style” has recorded 13 million hits.

Psy, who is visiting the U.S. to meet with Justin Bieber’s representatives, also showed off his signature “horse dance” at an L.A. Dodgers game in front of 50,000 spectators. Some of the spectators even danced along with him, showing the popularity of the song in the U.S.

U.S. cable network CNN, who introduced the music video earlier this month, posted up a video report titled, “Korean Rapper Explains Horse Dance” on its website. The report says Korean rapper Psy has caused a sensation online with his “horse dance”, adding that the music video is funny and the dance is intriguing.

The report also showed fans at Psy’s Seoul concert and Koreans learning the horse dance at dance academies, showing how popular the song is in Korea. The reporter noted Gangnam is like Seoul’s Beverly Hills which its luxury stores and trendy people.

Meanwhile, following tweets by famous artists like T-Pain, Robbie Williams and Josh Groban, Katy Perry also tweeted about the music video saying “Help, I’m in a Gangnam Style k hole” attaching a link to the music video. [Yonhap]
