  • Psy Collaborates with ‘Queen’ Guitarist Brian May
  • [2013-06-19]
  • International star Psy (real name Park Jae-sang, 35) has agreed to collaborate with Brian May, the guitarist of the legendary  British rock band Queen, on a new song. Psy said that Queen had always been idols to him, and had much influence on his own music.

British daily The Sun and MTV News reported on June 16 that Psy had agreed with Brian on their collaboration on the remix of new song in a recent lunch meeting and that Psy was very excited to collaborate with Queen’s guitarist in the studio.”

Earlier Psy revealed that his role model is Freddie Mercury, Queen’s vocalist.  He confessed that he cried a lot at the proposal to remix his new song with Brian May, thinking that his long-cherished dream were coming true.

Brian heard about Psy’s confession, met with him over lunch and agreed to their joint project.

Brian was also delighted saying, “It’s great to hear Psy is an ardent Queen fan, and has learned so much from us for his own music.”

He said, “Psy attracted 1.6 billion people on YouTube. We were so nervous in our first meeting that we just looked each other in the face for a while, but soon after, we dined and talked in good spirits as if we were old friends.”

Psy said, “As a fan of Freddie Mercury, I grew into a musician seeing Queen’s concerts and videos. But for Queen’s concert at Wembley Arena, I would not have become a pop artist.”

Brian said, “Both talked a lot about music. He was very thoughtful.” Brian emphasized the fact that Psy is not a transient celebrity, saying, “He has released six albums.”

Brian, 65-year-old, is still briskly engaging in music activities. He participated in producing Rockstar, a single by British rapper Dappy, last year. [Yonhap]
