  • Audiences Get Caught Up in "The Blade and Petal" through Two-episode Special
  • [2013-08-06]

  •  An abridged version of what went on in the first ten episodes of The Blade and Petal (written by Kwon Min-soo, directed by Kim Yong-soo & Park Jin-seok) aired on Sunday August 4th at 12:35 p.m.

The special was divided into two episodes and audiences were able to get caught up with the plot of the drama which showed the conflict between Goguryeo's King Young-ryu (played by Kim Young-chul) and general Yeongaesomun (played by Choi Min-soo) over international policy. Yeongaesomun joined hands with King Youngryu's nephew Jang (played by On Ju-wan) and led a coup, killing the king and taking over the palace. The special also showed how the love story between Yeongaesomun's illegitimate son Yeon Chung (played by Um Tae-woong) and King Young-ryu's daughter the Princess (played by Kim Ok-bin) would be a tragic romance.

The beautiful cinematography was also in the spotlight as a mask dance scene performed at the palace was especially praised for its ingenuity of combining theater and TV drama.
The drama's staff said, "Yeon Chung will slowly show his ambition while Moo-young wants revenge so the story will take a new turn starting from episode 11. We prepared the special so the audience can get a wrap up of what happened so far."

As curiosity builds over whether Moo-young will be able to get revenge on the Yeon family, the tragic love story between Yeon Chung and Moo-young will continue on August 7th at 10 p.m. on KBS2TV.
