  • Hwee-sung Discharged from Army: ”I am Sorry to Have Troubled You”
  • [2013-08-12]

  •  “I will reward your support with good music”

R & B singer Hwee-sung (31) completed his 21-month active service at the Army Training Center in Nonsan, Chungchong-namdo and was discharged from military service on Aug.9.

He was discharged three days later than originally planned as he had been confined in the guardhouse for use of a cell phone in the army camp without permission.

He revealed his feelings about being discharged from military service briefly to fans and reporters who came to see him, saying "I am sorry to have bothered you. It is really regrettable that I have hurt the feelings of my parents and fans "

He enlisted for mandatory military service in November, 2011 and served as a training assistant, and not as an entertainment soldier.

He is known to have been cited on over 10 occasions for his exemplary military service. Surprisingly, he appeared in the MBC’s reality show  “Sunday night - Real Men” in April, which features six male celebrities as they experience life in the army, and taught the cast members, including Ryu Soo-young and Sam Hamington, military songs.

He said, “I was in the army during the hardest period of my life.  I’d like to express my gratitude to the commander and  officers of Army Training Center who treated me the same as any other soldier.

He added, “Apink is the most popular group in the army and Crayon Pop is one the soldiers most like.”

During his service, Hwee-sung was summoned twice and interrogated by the military police at the end of April and in early May, on suspicion of  using anesthetic Propofol.  He was cleared of the charge after interrogation.

He said, “My army service was a great job. I got to have greater desire for music and I found my way clearly.”  He emphasized, “I will come back to you with some good music that you can be satisfied with.”
