  • Actor Song Il-gook and Professor Seo Kyoung-duk Run Electronic Ad Display in Pattaya
  • [2013-09-13]

  •  Actor Song Il-gook and freelance Korean publicist Seo Kyoung-duk, who is also a professor at Sungshin Women’s University, revealed on Sept.12 that they began to run advertisements on an electronic display introducing 'makgeolli', a traditional Korean rice wine, at the main billboard at the entrance of the walking street in the beach resort Pattaya in Thailand.

The ad is the same as one at the TSQ electronic display at Times Square in Manhattan, New York City shown in May last year.

The ad, on the right side of a makgeolli bottle and glass, reads, “I’m from Korea. I’m an oldie but a goodie. I’m made of rice. I have an excellent flavor. I create an amazing time. My name is makgeolli, the traditional Korean alcohol.”

The ad was produced as an animation and with a character named “I wanna talk”.  Wonder Boys,  Vixen, Limelight, Wonder Lab and others sponsored the ad.

The reason the ad was shown in the most popular place is to actively publicize makgeolli as the representative Korean alcohol to people of the world, just like Russia's vodka, Japan's sake and Germany's beer, thus improving the national brand.

The ad was also carried on the first page of Wall Street Journal, arousing great attention.

Professor Seo said, “As the ad at New York’s Time Square received a good response, we plan to extend the ad campaign to major electronic ad displays in major cities in Asia and Europe and start it first in Pattaya.” He added, “The ad will be shown on the screen 100 times a day. A total of 15 million people visit Pattaya every year.

Song Il-gook, who sponsored the ad, said, “I heard about the export of makeolli reduced recently. Korean people should have more interest in traditional food and makgeolli on the occasion of upcoming Chusok.”

Seo plans to post the ad file on SNS such as You Tube, Twitter and Facebook to herald makgeolli to the world people.
