  • 'The Iron Empress': Mok-jong and Empress Seonjeong’s First Night
  • [2009-06-19]
  • [TV Report] Mok-jong (played by Lee In) and Empress Seonjeong (played by Lee In-hye) in the KBS TV2 drama “The Iron Empress” have finally tied the knot and spent their first night together.

Since his childhood, Mok-jong liked his elder cousin, who took good care of him. Empress Cheonchu (played by Chae Si-ra) decided to have Mok-jong marry Empress Seonjeong. In the episode that aired June 14, the two tied the knot and spent their first night together. The scene showing the two kiss drew particular attention. But despite a gorgeous wedding, they didn’t get the chance to spend a night together after all, because Mok-jong felt uncomfortable and too nervous.

On the day when the two finally decided to spend the night together, Mok-jong said that the empress was like a sister to him and that he had no feelings for her whatsoever. He apologized to her, but her feelings were hurt. Mok-jong’s mother was also worried about his unexpected behavior. But with no regard for their concerns and worries, Mok-jong begins to seek pleasures outside his home, presaging a difficult marital life for the empress.

Historical documents say that Mok-jong later became homosexual while his mother ruled as regent. What fate awaits him in the drama and how will his abandoned wife cope with her plight? (In the photos: scenes from the drama)
